When an acquisition program requires deployment of multiple acquisition techniques and/or multiple vessels to achieve its goals this can lead to inefficiencies and potentially higher costs. Examples of this are where obstructions are present and where a combination of nodal and streamer acquisition is required.
Hybrid surveys are where more than one technology, such as nodes and towed streamer, are deployed from a single vessel. Shearwater is experienced in this type of acquisition using its MPV (multipurpose vessel) SW Vespucci which is equipped with a node handing system, a towed streamer spread and source array. Node patches, combined with a towed streamer configuration spread over the nodes, considerably increases efficiency by removing the requirement of multiple vessels and crews.
